ReSpatial

Meet Our Team

Our mission is to provide neurorehabilitative device that will facilitate engagement for patients during therapy session. We are a team of 5 creative biomedical engineers seeking to revitalize patients’ motivation for therapeutic treatments. Our team was formed by members who have research experience in robotic devices used in neurorehabilitation (strokes, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson's, etc.) at UCI Biorobotics Lab.

Objectives

We are building an interactive gaming console used in the clinic to assist moderate stroke patients training their left spatial neglect symptoms

Left side neglect occurs in 82% of the 800,000 annual stroke cases in the U.S. This results in patients failing to recognize activities of patients' entire left side of the body.

ReSpatial will be providing patients with fun alternative to current repetitive exercises.

Below is our pitch video

Our Product

ReSpatial ensures that post-stroke patients get physical exercise they need from the conventional therapy session, while engaging in the video game. Hence, our device is designed in the way that patients will push/pull the controller with their left hands to generate the character's movement on the screen. The screen is automatically scrolling from right to left to direct patients' attention toward the left side

Gen Zero Prototype

The game is played by the left hand to trigger attention to the left side

Resistivity is adjustable depending on the patients' progress. Resistivity mimics the weight bearing therapy that patients would normally get in the therapy session

The game on the screen scrolls from right to left to ensure that patients are always paying attention to the left side.

Business Model

Our main business model is to sell devices in bulk to hospitals and physical and occupational therapy centers. We will aim for a multi-sided market by selling the device for at-home patient use. We also plan to incorporate a subscription model for a future growing game library and multiplayer content. Consumers can either pay the monthly subscription fee or choose to independently purchase games from our growing library. There will be a subscription including online multiplayer to increase competition and create opportunities to train with other patients.

We are looking to sell our device at around a 70% profit margin. Using our prototype prices, our current sell price will be ~$2000. This price is already comparable to our current competitors and will drop when buying parts and building devices in bulk. Overall, we aim for our device to be all encompassing and more affordable than the current available market.
